Day-by-Day Route Breakdown

Day 1: Lago di BraiesRifugio Fanes

19.2 km / 11.9 mi · 1490m↑ · 929m↓ ·

A big opening day from the turquoise waters of Lago di Braies, climbing steeply to Forcella sora Forno at 2,388m. Past Rifugio Biella and across the serene Sennes plateau, descending to Pederü before climbing again into the legendary Fanes plateau — watch for marmots — to reach Rifugio Fanes at 2,060m in the heart of the Dolomites.

Day 2: Rifugio FanesRifugio Averau

Following old WW1 military roads past Lago di Limo, the steep ascent to Forcella di Lago and dramatic descent to Lago Lagazuoi. Through moon-like terrain to Forcella Lagazuoi at 2,573m with its WW1 trenches, past Rifugio Lagazuoi at 2,752m, then descending to Passo Falzarego. Climbing past Lago Limides to reach Rifugio Averau at 2,413m with its spectacular panoramic terrace.

Day 3: Rifugio AverauRifugio Coldai

Descending toward Passo Giau through colourful alpine meadows, then southeast to Forcella Giau and across the Mondeval grasslands. Past Monte Pelmo's iconic armchair silhouette to Rifugio Città di Fiume, crossing beneath Pelmo's scree slopes to Passo Staulanza. A steep rocky climb to Rifugio Coldai at 2,132m with commanding views of Monte Pelmo dominating the eastern horizon.

Day 4: Rifugio ColdaiRifugio Passo Duran

20.6 km / 12.8 mi · 975m↑ · 1493m↓ ·

The stunning turquoise Lago Coldai beneath towering limestone walls, then Forcella Col Negro with first views of Monte Civetta's legendary 'Wall of Walls.' Traversing beneath Civetta to Rifugio Vazzoler nestled among ancient trees, then through enormous boulders and scree beneath the Torri di Camp to Rifugio Carestiato. A straightforward descent to the twin refuges at Passo Duran.

Day 5: Rifugio Passo DuranLa Pissa

27.9 km / 17.3 mi · 1307m↑ · 2437m↓ ·

The longest day, entering the wild Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. Past WW1 ruins to Rifugio Pramperet in peaceful high meadows, then the most challenging climb of the route — relentless gradients exceeding 25% to Forcella de Zita Sud at 2,395m. A steep descent to Rifugio Pian de Fontana, traversing the head of Val Vescovà past Rifugio Bianchet, and the final descent through dense beech woodland to La Pissa — the triumphant finish.
