An unofficial 370km wilderness route from Fort William to Cape Wrath, the most north-westerly point of mainland Britain. The trail passes through some of the remotest landscape in the UK, including Knoydart, Torridon, Assynt, and the vast peatlands of Sutherland. There is no single waymarked path — walkers follow a combination of stalkers' paths, bog crossings, river fords, and open hillside. Expect limited services, no mobile signal for days, and the need for full self-sufficiency including navigation skills. Wild camping is essential for much of the route.

Highland midges can be a serious nuisance on this trail from late May through August in still, damp conditions. The first three weeks of May are generally midge-free. Midges start to decline from mid-September. Consider carrying a head-net and repellent if hiking from late May onwards.
