    Camino Francés (from Burgos)

    Spain · Northern Spain
    Hilly

The most walked pilgrimage route in Europe, covering 500km from Burgos across the flat Meseta plains and over the mountains of Galicia to Santiago de Compostela. The route follows ancient pilgrim paths through historic cities like León and Astorga, crosses the high point at Cruz de Ferro, and descends through eucalyptus forests to the Atlantic coast. Expect a well-developed network of albergues (pilgrim hostels), a strong communal atmosphere, and the chance to earn a Compostela certificate. The Meseta can be hot and exposed in summer.
