A 240km trail through the Finnskog — a forested border region between Sweden and Norway settled by Finnish immigrants in the 17th century. The route passes through deep coniferous forests, past quiet lakes, and through remnants of Finnish smoke sauna and slash-and-burn farming culture. Expect true wilderness walking with limited services, some boggy sections, and abundant wildlife including moose, beaver, and forest birds. Shelters and simple cabins provide basic accommodation. The trail offers a sense of remoteness that is increasingly rare in Scandinavia, with very few other walkers.
