A 400km traverse of Andalucía's mountains from Tarifa at the southern tip of Spain to Puebla de Don Fadrique in the northeast. The route crosses the limestone sierras, passes through whitewashed pueblos blancos, and traverses the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Expect hot, dry conditions in summer, with spring and autumn offering wildflowers and milder temperatures. The Alpujarra villages on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada are highlights — Moorish-influenced architecture, terraced irrigation, and local ham and wine. Navigation can require attention in places.
