    Iceland · Central Highlands
    Challenging

A 400km remote trail through Iceland's uninhabited interior highlands, crossing lava fields, glacial rivers, and volcanic deserts. The route traverses some of the most otherworldly landscapes in Europe — black sand plains, steaming geothermal areas, and vast expanses without vegetation. Expect unbridged river crossings, no shelter between widely spaced huts, and weather that can include snow and sandstorms in summer. Complete self-sufficiency is essential, including carrying food for multiple days. The highland interior is one of Europe's last great wildernesses, accessible only during a short summer window.
