A 370km ridge trail along the Balkan Mountain range (Stara Planina) from the Serbian border to the Black Sea coast. The route follows the main Balkan ridge, passing through beech forests, alpine meadows, and granite peaks including Botev (2376m). Expect remote sections with basic mountain huts (hizhi), wolves and bears in remoter areas, and a trail that varies from well-maintained to overgrown. Bulgaria's mountains are less visited than those in western Europe, offering genuine wilderness and solitude. The final descent to the Black Sea at Cape Emine is a rewarding conclusion.
