A 250km trail through Bulgaria's Rhodope Mountains — a region of dense forests, deep gorges, and traditional Pomak (Muslim Bulgarian) villages. The Rhodopes are home to brown bears, wolves, and some of Europe's rarest birds of prey. Expect a mix of forest trails and ridge walks through rolling mountains that are gentler than the Balkans or Pirin ranges. The villages retain traditional stone architecture and offer authentic Bulgarian accommodation and cuisine. The region's cultural mix of Christian and Muslim communities adds a distinctive character. Spring brings wild orchids and autumn offers mushroom foraging.
