    National Blue Trail

    Hungary · Hungarian Highlands
    Hilly

A 470km waymarked trail crossing Hungary from the Austrian border to the Zemplén hills near Slovakia. The route passes through the volcanic Börzsöny and Mátra mountains (including Kékes, Hungary's highest point at 1014m), Tokaj wine country, and forested hills. Expect gentle terrain compared to Alpine trails, well-maintained paths through oak and beech forests, and regular villages with thermal baths and excellent Hungarian cuisine. The trail has a long tradition — established in 1938 — and walkers collect stamps at checkpoints along the route. A passport system records completion.
