    Southern Upland Way

    Scotland · Scottish Borders
    Challenging

Scotland's coast-to-coast trail covering 341km from Portpatrick on the Irish Sea to Cockburnspath on the North Sea. The route crosses remote moorland, commercial forestry, and rolling border hills with long stretches between services. Expect solitude, big skies, and challenging navigation in poor weather. The terrain is often boggy and the waymarking can be sparse in places. Highlights include the Galloway Hills, St Mary's Loch, and the Eildon Hills near Melrose. Suited to self-sufficient walkers comfortable in remote terrain.
