    Via Francigena (Tuscany Section)

    Italy · Tuscany
    Hilly

A 380km section of the ancient pilgrimage route from Canterbury to Rome, crossing Tuscany from the Cisa Pass to the Lazio border. The route passes through Lucca, Siena, and the stunning Val d'Orcia landscape of cypress-lined roads and rolling clay hills. Expect well-waymarked paths through vineyards, olive groves, and medieval borghi (villages). The terrain is mostly gentle with some hillier sections over Apennine foothills. Pilgrim accommodation (ostelli) is developing, supplemented by agriturismi and B&Bs. Tuscan food and wine are exceptional throughout.
