A 313km trail through the volcanic Eifel region from Aachen to Trier, crossing a landscape shaped by ancient volcanism. The route passes maar lakes (volcanic crater lakes), sandstone formations in the Teufelsschlucht gorge, and Roman ruins in Trier — Germany's oldest city. Expect varied terrain through forests, moorland, and farming countryside, with well-spaced villages and Gasthäuser. The Eifel's volcanic past creates a distinctive landscape of circular lakes and basalt formations. The trail is well-waymarked and moderate in difficulty. Eifel cuisine features game, trout, and seasonal wild garlic.
