    Goldsteig (Section)

    Germany · Bavaria
    Hilly

A 300km section of Germany's longest waymarked trail through the Bavarian Forest and Upper Palatinate Forest along the Czech border. The route passes through one of Europe's last remaining old-growth forests in the Bavarian Forest National Park, crossing ridges with views into Bohemia. Expect dense forest trails, granite boulder fields, and a mix of comfortable Gasthäuser and simpler forest huts. The Bavarian Forest is home to lynx reintroduction programmes. The trail offers two variants — a northern ridge route and a gentler southern valley route. Bavarian hospitality and hearty cuisine are reliable throughout.
