A 492km trail from Pieterburen on the Wadden Sea coast to Maastricht in the south — the Netherlands' most walked long-distance route. The trail crosses the full diversity of Dutch landscapes: tidal mudflats, peat moors, reclaimed polders, sandy heath, river floodplains, and the hilly Limburg region. Expect flat to gently rolling terrain with well-maintained paths and excellent infrastructure. The route passes through historic towns, past windmills, and along canals. Accommodation is plentiful and the trail is easily walked in sections using the excellent Dutch rail network. A cultural rather than physical challenge.
