A 162km national trail following the chalk ridge of the South Downs from Winchester to Eastbourne, with sweeping views across the Weald and to the English Channel. The route passes Iron Age hillforts, ancient field systems, and dew ponds, ending dramatically at the white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head. Much of the trail runs along open downland with good footing on springy turf. Charming villages in dry valleys provide accommodation and refreshment. Also suitable for mountain biking and horse riding.
