A 280km trail around and through the Tatra Mountains — the highest peaks of the Carpathians and the smallest high mountain range in the world. The route crosses between Slovakia and Poland, passing glacial tarns, granite peaks, and mountain meadows with chamois and marmots. Expect exposed rocky terrain at altitude, chains and ladders on steeper sections, and well-run mountain huts (chaty) on both sides of the border. The High Tatras pack Alpine-scale scenery into a compact area, with dramatic granite spires rising above dark pine forests. Mountain experience is essential for the higher sections.
