    Traversata dell'Etna

    Italy · Sicily
    Mountainous

A 120km traverse of Mount Etna — Europe's highest and most active volcano — from sea level to the summit crater zone. The route passes through distinct vegetation zones: citrus groves and vineyards at the base, ancient oak and birch forests at mid-altitude, and stark lava fields near the summit. Expect loose volcanic terrain, sulphur vents, and a landscape that changes with each eruption — recent lava flows are visible throughout. The summit zone requires a guide and conditions are unpredictable. Lower sections pass through traditional Sicilian villages with excellent local wine and cuisine. Volcanic activity may restrict access.
